Hardships of the Voyage

Describe some of the hardships that people endured in coming to the colonies.

How did people survive some of the hardships of the voyage and early settlement?

How long did this voyage take?
What were the living conditions on the ship like?
What were the dimensions of the ships used?

Considering the conditions and reasons for why people left Great Britain, what were some of the things you think they hoped to gain in coming to the colonies?

When they first started in America it was hard because there wasnt land for them but when they found out that if they brought people to America you could get land.

I think living on a ship would be awful. Because you were crammed into a ship getting diseases and eating maggots GROSS. thats why i would never go on a exploration

They just toughed it out.
It took quite a few years.
It was rough and cruel. They were always punished.
I think they were hoping for better treatment, and a better government.

I think that the first settlers to the colonies were hoping for their own freedom and to get rich from plants like tobacco.
Some people survived the hardships by working hard and building there houses first so they would be warm during the summer.
The living conditions on the ship were bad, they were cramped, ate bug infested food, and lived with people who had diseases.

The voyage took many days maybe even weeks or months.

The living conditions were horrible there was limited food and water people were sick and spreding deiseases, and people were dieing.

There were many levels of the ship the bottom was probley for the food and the other levels were for people to stay and live in.

Freedom of religion and stuff like that.

The hardships of coming over to america was mainly death. Scurvy was common among those during sea, and tuberculosis was more common on land. And also they had some war with some of the hostile natives.

the hard ships of coming to america were finding some place to live. Also being on the mayflower for 2 months and the diseases.

The thing that was so hard about coming to america was thatthe food that they were provided was not that healthy. It was also hard because they were all crammed on the ship. Also they were very dirty because they couldn't take a shower for a few months.

The hard part about coming to america was the there weren't enough food supply's. there weren't enough room on the boat so people got sick. They got hit with really bad storms.

The hardships from coming to America were harsh. But what i think is the worst of it all was the disease. It was bad enough not having food but slowly suffering from Typhus fever and dying painfully and agonizingly.

The hardships of coming to america were diseases, drowning, and running out of food. These are just a few hardships of coming to America. Another problem was they were stuffed on ships and could not clean themselves.

Life in the colonies were hard for the poorer people. they were the ones who had to work for a living while the rich did nothing. In Jamestown the land was bad for farming and the water was full of diseases so many people died from starvation and diseases.

the hard ships are the diseases the food and not being to the land condition and no money needing things while thier on the ships that they cant get. freedom of religon

Coming to America was hard at first. They didn't know what was there. They didn't know if they had to have the same religion as before or if they could be free. They had no land at first or anything to their name. Then after they got use to America they had land, and everything they needed like freedom.

there were plenty of hard ships when coming to the colones. they had limited amount of room on the mayflower and they had no way to clean them self's and so the bacteria built and built and started getting deasese

Some of their hard ships on the ships were diseases and malnutrition.
The voyage took 41/2 months.
I think they hoped they would gain freedom of religion.
